System Variable Differences Between MariaDB 10.2 and MySQL 5.6

The following is a comparison of variables that either appear only in MariaDB 10.2 or MySQL 5.6, or have different default settings in MariaDB 10.2, and MySQL 5.6. MariaDB 10.2.19 and MySQL 5.6.27, with only default plugins enabled, were used for the comparison.

The most notable differences are that MariaDB includes, by default, the Aria storage engine (resulting in extra memory allocation), Galera Cluster and has a different thread pool implementation. For this reason, a default implementation of MariaDB 10.2 will use more memory than MySQL 5.6. MariaDB 10.2 and MySQL 5.6 also have different GTID implementations.
