MariaDB SkySQL is a database-as-a-service (DBaaS) originally offered by MariaDB plc. In 2023, MariaDB plc finalized a spinoff of SkySQL. SkySQL is no longer an offering by MariaDB plc.
There are several ways to deploy MariaDB in the cloud today. The most common way is to deploy MariaDB Server on cloud infrastructure (ex: Amazon EC2, Azure VMs, etc.). By taking this approach, organizations have more control over costs, their systems and configurations, including deploying the enterprise version of MariaDB Server and optimizing for high availability and security configurations. This approach also works well for hybrid cloud environments. Deploy the same configuration of MariaDB Enterprise Platform on-premises, in private and public clouds.
The MariaDB Enterprise Kubernetes Operator allows organizations to run and operate MariaDB Enterprise Platform in an automated and cloud native way. It aims to declaratively manage MariaDB instances using Kubernetes Custom Resource Definition (CRD) instead of imperative commands.
MariaDB plc also offers a Remote Database Administrator (RDBA) service that can manage every part of database installation, configuration and deployment of MariaDB Enterprise Platform on cloud infrastructure. If you are interested in managed service capabilities with MariaDB, contact us.
